Weepy eyes, want a birthday hug from mom and dad

wrote this in january...

Sitting next to Dad's bed - Kimmarie Gaye

This last year and a half have been the same for our family, my mother with multiple strokes, a brain injury from a fall and dementia, my husband's mom passing away and now, this last week I have spent at my dad's side holding his hand, and sleeping in his hospital room as he struggles with his own passing. It has not been easy, and i can not express how hard it is to tell someone they are dieing and that chemotherapy will not help them.

I watch as this strong man who only last fall traveled from Coast to coast to dine with the president, and now the inaugural invitation lies in the drawer of his hospital room. Visitors stream in and out, he has touched so many lives. He rallies a bit with each new person, smiles and visits and tells them he will get better, but at nights when it is just he and i, he hallucinates as his past intrudes into this moment. He wakes, struggling to arise with a body that no longer responds to try and find his wallet so that he can pay for his anniversary dinner, he claps his hands to scare off the animal that peeks through the cabin window, he cries out for love from his mother that died when he was only 13.

And through it all, I smile at him even as the tears drip from my nose and cheeks.

Amazon Listmania and Wish lists

I updated my May/June reading listmania list so I can keep track of what I read this year. I still haven't figured out exactly how to link to the lists because of the url possibly having a session key included in the url.

I bought myself a few books from Amazon for myself for my birthday and also went through my book piles here at home to get my next few reads ready.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Had a small dinner with the essential crowd tonite, Dad-Doye, Cuz'n Paula, Carmie, myself and of course the SadieJane. Carm made a great dinner, rice, marinated flank steak with organically grown onions, garlic and shitaki mushrooms, Chicken in a soy mustard marinade, rice, grilled zucchini and white onions and a romaine salad. Desert was a cheesecake. Paula added Brownies and homemade cookies with cranberries, raisins and white chocolate in the mix. Add french roast coffee and juices and it sounds like a gourmet birthday dinner.

And we do this about once a week!

Book release/care package

Getting ready to send a package to Iraq, scored a whole bunch of never read military fiction books at the thrift store for a quarter a piece. I registered the books at www.bookcrossing.com and Kythe is going to go over them to see which ones should go in the next box.

Other items I am sending are some DVD's, candy, jerky, microwave popcorn, shampoo and lotion, a current newspaper and from carmie, comic books and a raider tshirt.

Thocmetony's Tales

While cruising the net tonite, I found out that the site I created at the pozar website was referenced as an entry under "Biographical Sources & Critical Response:" at the University of Nevada Reno site about Nevada Writers Hall of Fame.

Perky Penguins

I started another blog tonite to write about bargains and money deals. If nothing else the blogging is a good way of organizing thoughts. The new blog can be found at http://perkypenguins.blogspot.com

Next blog consideration is for Haiku House so that I can write about the history of the seventeenth street house.

Fartosaurus

Sadie Jane earned a new nickname this weekend. Sue and Ben were visiting and slept downstairs with Sadie. I guess between the clicking toenails, the slurping of water and the random farts, it was difficult to sleep. Sorry about that Sue! Carmie had some long talks with Ben about Dinosaurs and tried to convince Ben that the reason that there are no more dinosaurs was gang violence and smoking. He also kept trying to convince Ben that Sadie was a dinosaur. Well, between Sadie Jane beng herself and the dino talks, she earned the nickname Fartosaurus.

He huffed and he puffed and he...

blew the fire out. Well it got my heart pounding. I made the mistake of putting a plastic traveler coffee cup in the microwave and then left the room for a moment. Came back in to a fire in the microwave. I was completely discomboluated, Carmie heard me squeal "fire!" and came running down the stairs. He opened the microwave and blew out the fire, made sure I was okay and went back upstairs to bed with his flu. I spent the next hour cleaning up the soot and making sure the microwave was still usable. Sheesh, I should know better.

Flu, Miserable Flu

There is absolutely no redeeming value in the flu. Parts of my body hurt that I can't imagine why they would hurt. Anyways, so that is where I am right now, bouncing between begging for sleep and cleaning house because I can't sleep. My head is so clogged up that simple computer tasks are brain busters and the most I have accomplished online is spending money at http://www.bookcloseouts.com/default.asp?N=0&rid=scarlos and www.ebay.com. Books and Disney Stuff...Yay.

Some of the books I ordered are to send to Iraq to Ky's best friend Jeff who will be there until September. Any of my friends and family that have any actio DVD's that they are willing to send over can get them to me and I will include them in my next package.

The Disney stuff is for me.

culinary cinsumption in sin city

There is more to do here than to count coup on Elvis impersonators; there is the neverending array of restaraunts that beckon!

We have eaten things we never even heard of before today, for instance, for breakfast we had a pastrami omelette with brown mustard as a condiment. Very diff, very good. We also had cheese blintzes with sour cream. Yummy is the best and most accurate word to describe them.

Dinner last night was Todai's, one of our favorite Japanese buffets. We took our time and Carm followed the WWJD, "what would Jesse do" precept and went for one more plate. The store was offering a few extras for Mom's day and I received a carnation, a glass of plum wine and a small box of godiva chocolate which made my day.

Dinner tonite was Wolfgang Puck's grill at the MGM. We had the flat iron steak and it was one of the most tender pieces of beef I have ever had.

Oh, and we saw two Elvi today.

working simply, simply working

first day at a paid job in two years. Illness and family needs have kept me from the workforce. I don't know how it will go for the next couple of days, but it is only to help out at my cousins shop for mother's day. It was fun and gratifying to be doing something again and i wouldn't mind doing this for the holidays for her.

Finished the day with a cousin from the other side of the family, dinner and a chance to see her pics from her trip to belgium and holland last year.

And tomorrow, my sweet sadie jane will go to work with me.

Accomplishments

They can be big or small, I really need to get back into the big ones, but I found that the 43 things web site was good for getting me to meet goals. It helped me focus on what I want to do and I actually finished several things on the list this week. Some of those items have been on my todo list for a year. Also, some of the items that I initially put on the list were deleted as I rethought what was important to me. The items I accomplished included, 1. go wireless, 2. fix computer, 3. walk or excercise everyday (ongoing), 4. lose weight (ongoing), quit talking on my cell phone while driving, and last but not least, 5. start a blog.

Regrets or Apologies, do they do any good?

Seems like everyone has regrets or things they wish they could have erased from their experiences. Mine have always dealt with family. Maybe it is because next week is my first Mother's day without Mom. What I wish is that I had been a better Mom myself. I also wish I could apologize for some of the things I did and the things I didn't do that could have made a difference.

Hubby and I went to Mom and Dad's condo today to get some furniture and as we were leaving town I felt like I could see Dad on the sand dunes. He was younger than I ever saw him except in photos and there were 2 or 3 other young men with him. I realized we were near the old ranch so it is very likely that he did walk across those sand dunes in order to get to the beach.

The furniture we got today was Mom and Dad's bedroom set that they bought in the 50's the night stands and dresser look very cool in our room. They fit surprisingly well in the space and color matches beautifully. We also picked up Dad's Grandfather Clock. It defintely looks like it belongs here.

SadieJane smiles
Posted by Hello

food bowl door

shine feels good
and yellow grass
tickles my nose
i sneezes

girl wafts by
and pats my head
wags i my tail
shes pleased

sees i her go
my boy she know
and takes to him
my scent

hunger itches
time to leave
i stretches
all unbent

i ups and lopes
down back my trail
scratch fleas and screens
outside my food bowl door

no boy to play
no bone to worry
plops i my haunches
down far as floor

nose to porch
i blows the dust
that brings my boy
from gone

away from door
we run the fence
we call the birds
we splash the pond

shakes i, squawks he
we go to door
he opens and
my feed is found

grubs i the bowl
licks up the scraps
turn round my rug
and hits the ground

boy ball and bat
bark stay and go
set i and watch
the food bowl door

is good to have
a trail to git
a boy to fetch
a rug to snore

Do Dogs Wink?

Since Dad died, SadieJane does. So in honor of Dogs and communication with the other side, this blog is named Winking Dog
